Things couldn’t be more exciting for
Aurelia, she graduated top of her class and is being sent to her dream
position, as a Med Worker in Lunar City where the elite call home. Leaving her
family in Earth City 01, she boards a shuttle headed for the moon. Things go
awry quickly and Aurelia’s skills as a Med Worker are quickly called for, but
is she ready for the task? Soon she is caught in the middle of something bigger
than her; clones, future presidents; assassins, lethal injections and something
called “The Resistance.” Aurelia must decide what she wants; the job she was
trained and groomed to do; or follow her heart and her new found love.
Since
Want is the first book in Magus Tor’s
Numbered series, it leaves the reader feeling desperate for more. Tor does an
excellent job of setting up the characters and giving the reader just enough
information about the society so they are not lost. The story jumps right into
the action, going back later to fill in the blanks, especially the details
about the destruction of society as we in the 21st century know it. The
author has given the readers a sense of what is to come, but I am sure he has a few more
twists in his pen.
This
novel really does a nice job of pulling the reader into the series, lots of
action and enough backstory to keep things flowing nicely. On the other hand, there
was not a lot of time to get to know the characters before the cliffhanger
ending left you going, “Where is the rest of the chapter,” but I expect there
will be more character development in the later novels.
If
you are looking for a new dystopian series to submerge yourself in, I suggest
you start with Want.
I give Want 4 out of 5 Stars.
Enjoy!
