So the verdict is out, eleven of the Atlanta teachers caught changing student's test scores are going to jail. Wow! I didn't see that coming.
What they did was wrong, there is no denying it. But jail time! Do you think that is a bit extreme? I mean, what about these teachers having sex with their students or even those teachers that simply walk into their classrooms Monday through Friday, collect a check, but refuse to educate their students. What kind of jail time are they going to be serving?
As a mother of three I have had my share of great educators along with those that made me wonder, "Why on earth are you a teacher?"
So my questions to you are: do you think jail time is a bit over the top or should they lose their teaching license? Here is a better question, did the new law, which required passing test scores in order for teacher bonuses, was and is it fair? With all due respect, so many of these teachers are more than educators; they are therapist, disciplinarians, caseworkers, and nurses. Most teachers spend more time disciplining unruly students oppose to teaching, because in some cases students are not receiving the discipline or family involvement they need. Is it really fair to put all that work onto the shoulders of our educators, especially those that give it their all.
Sounds like double edge sword if you ask me. "Damned if you do and damned if you don't."
What are your thoughts?
