“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” or shall I say it is subjective; similar to how one visualizes art. In the newly released book entitled, Cincinnati 5, Author Emily Moores allows readers into a world of self-expression. Showcasing five different disciplines all in which are creating and telling stories through oil canvas’, screen prints, and narrative quilts just to name a few; five artists, all whom share the same geographic location share a common goal, their need to express themselves.

Readers will find a great appreciation in how Moores offers a snippet into each of the artists lives along with an Q&A section, and original works from each of the authors, which in hindsight enables a better perspective and admiration for the artist’s collections. The pieces selected are all conversational, which creates a need and wanting to learn more about these individuals as well as their works that contributes to making Cincinnati beautiful.

So who is the target audience for this short read? Truth is, Moores quenches the thirst of art lovers while inviting newcomers into a world were creativity has the ability to speak to each individual differently. Michael Stillion said it best when asked, “Is there any advice for anyone who is intimidated by looking at abstraction?” Stillion’s response was epic! “If you go into it, thinking that you have to see it one way, that is going to be dangerous…. [s]tep back thirty feet, look at it from a distance become interest in it.” That is how one should attack this read.

I give “Cincinnati 5: Artists Impacting the Community” 4 ½ out of 5 stars.

Happy Reading
